Accessibility

ICON Property wants everyone to be able to find a home with us, including people who use a keyboard instead of a mouse, a screen reader, screen magnification, voice control or other assistive technology. This statement covers the website iconproperty.pt in all four of its languages.

The standard we follow

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, the standard behind the European norm EN 301 549 and the European Accessibility Act.

Conformance status

The website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA: most of it meets the standard, and the exceptions we know of are listed below.

What we have done

  • Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a "Skip to content" link at the top.
  • Images have text descriptions, and decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Forms have labels, say which fields are required and announce errors and confirmations.
  • Text and buttons meet the WCAG contrast ratios, and the site works at 400% zoom and on screens as narrow as 320 pixels.
  • Menus and pop-up windows (the mobile menu, photo viewer and floor plans) take the focus, keep it while open and close with the Escape key.
  • Moving carousels have a pause button, and animations and the homepage slideshow stop when your device asks for reduced motion.
  • Each language version tells assistive technology which language it is in, so it is read with the right pronunciation.

Known limitations

  • Maps. The interactive maps come from a third party and are hard to use without a mouse or sight. The town and, where available, the address of each property are always given as text next to the map.
  • Property videos. Video tours are hosted on YouTube and may not have captions or audio description, and inside the player the keyboard belongs to YouTube (Shift+Tab leaves it). Ask us and we will describe the property or arrange a call.
  • PDF documents. Some brochures and documents are PDF files that may not be fully readable by screen readers. Ask us and we will send the information in another format.
  • Text over photographs. On the photo banners the text has a dark outline to keep it readable, but the contrast still depends on the photo behind it.

How we checked

This statement is based on our own review of the website, with automated testing (axe-core) of every type of page in all four languages, keyboard-only testing and checks on phone, tablet and desktop screen sizes.
